WHAT'S HAPPENING AT HMK
The colder weather is not slowing BEACON HMK down! We are gearing up for the holiday season by spreading joy and giving back to the community! Our kids and staff are having a blast dancing, crafting, cooking, writing, and swimming through Trimester 2 already!
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT MCS
Moab Charter School is happy to welcome our new staff member Wes Schuchman! He is taking over our Science Explorers and Arts and Crafters clubs, along with teaching his Kid Chefs club.
We are loving our new clubs this trimester, and are finding holiday prep to be a great start to Trimester 2! Academic enrichment has found a fantastic rhythm this trimester and we are thrilled to have so many students excited to learn.
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT GCMS
The hunt for a ghost in the school at Mythbusters Club; the search for Lego glory at the upcoming regional robotics tournament; the practice of writing stories with your friends at Write On!; kickflips and guitar riffs in our Skateboarding and Guitar Clubs- these are just some of the activities making GCMS BEACON a fun place to be 2nd trimester. Students are coming out in numbers to get their homework done each day and we’re excited to build their academic expertise with two upcoming workshops: Test Taking Skill Building on December 10th and an Organization Skills workshop in early January. Please encourage your students to attend!
The picture shows how happy our students were to give an early Christmas present to our librarian, Joan Cannon. This November students contributed to a brand new bright red wall for the library.
BEACON AFTERSCHOOL ALL-STARS
GCMS BEACON All-Star:
Congratulations to Malissa Christensen, the GCMS BEACON Student of the month! Malissa was an easy choice for us as she is always leading by example: her positivity, hard work, and consistency are on display for her friends and fellow students. We love her great attitude, manners, and love the fact that she is a self starter- getting to her homework without needing to be asked. Her parents Mark and Jodi sure to be proud! Awesome job Malissa!

MCS BEACON All-Star:
Congratulations to Astraya Bell, the MCS BEACON All-Star of the Month! Astraya is a 3rd grader in Mrs. Silver’s class. Astraya was nominated by Kari Han, the BEACON Site Coordinator at MCS. Astraya has an excellent attendance record! She always shows up for clubs with a great attitude, and has a BEACON club every day of the week. We asked Astraya what her favorite thing about BEACON was. Her response, “I like BEACON because I get to play and do stuff instead of sitting around.” Thanks Astraya, for being a great BEACON student!
HMK BEACON Academic All-Star:
Juan is a 6th grade student in Mrs. Camp’s class. His mother is Hortenzia Meraz. Juan was nominated by his tutor Barry Ellison. Barry explained, “Juan is a great guy. He brings a smile with his work every day. In spite of what is going on around him he stays focused and works hard. His work is paying off, he has good grades and his English is getting better. I expect great things from him.” When asked what Juan’s favorite thing about BEACON his response was, “ Okay, I’m done with this, now what do I work on?” Congratulations Juan on all your hard work, your determination and focus is amazing, we are so proud of you!
HMK Enrichment All-Star:
James is a 5th grader in Mr. Lewis’s class. His mother is Dayana Chaires and father is Mario Perez. James was nominated by his activity leader Sandy White. Sandy explained, “I've enjoyed having James in my clubs and watch him progress over the past several years. In addition to progressing academically, James has grown to be a great leader and role model. He did an outstanding job mentoring the first graders last trimester. He has an amazing amount of zest for life that kept the younger students engaged for an entire two hours. He has a creative mind and is always trying to lighten the mood in some way or another. I admire his fearlessness when it comes to trying new things. He seems to be able to do anything he puts his mind to. Ladies and gentlemen I have no doubt that someday this kid will make history!" James we are blown away by your growth, and are so proud of all you have accomplished so far this year. Keep up the great work!
